The Federal government should make a comprehensive legislation to protect the country's poultry industry from serious health threats.
Dr Khalid Mahmood Shouq, Secretary General of World Poultry Science Association (Pakistan Branch), urged this here on Tuesday. He said that the poultry farms were not observing any rules or regulations, hence many of the poultry farms were working in filthy conditions. Consequently, the chances of disease outbreak on such farms were comparatively higher, he added.
According to him, many farmers were not properly disposing of dead birds, which was a major factor in the outbreak of bird diseases.
The scientific way of disposal of dead birds was either by burning them in an incinerator or burying them deep in the ground in the shape of disposal pits.
Thus, in public interest and in the interest of poultry farmers, it would be advisable to have at least one disposal pit on the farm or use the incinerator.
He said that the government must introduce regulations in this regard to safeguard the poultry industry from disease threat.
