Partly Facetious: let's all pray for the government
"So Dr Aafiya Siddiqui had already been handed over to the Americans."
"Who is she?"
"One of seven alleged terrorists identified by the FBI as planning to carry out an attack on American soil. She is apparently a brilliant scientist and quite capable of making bombs or whatever she is accused of."
"When did the Pakistanis hand her over to the US?"
"Last year they say."
"Why then? I mean there was nothing against her then, was there?"
"Who knows what our government is doing on the say so of the Americans. The names of some of those apprehended and deported to the US are revealed by our independent Press, and that is because they have relatives or friends, others are just handed over without any hue and cry."
"But is she really a terrorist? I mean last time the FBI gave the name of a jeweller in Lahore and that matter was later cleared up."
"Well our officials act on instructions. The rest is up to those apprehended or the Americans."
"And you know what the funny thing is? The Americans have recently downgraded their security alert. So now what does this mean? The seven terrorists are not really terrorists or what?"
"I guess it just means or what!"
"Pathetic isn't it?"
"Yes, but more so as far as our government is concerned, I mean one of our government flunkeys has said that Dr Siddiqui was deported because she had dual nationality, the person said that the government has not yet deported any Pakistani citizen and."
"What about Shahbaz Sharif?"
"Ah yes, they deport only political opponents, not ordinary citizens."
"Maybe we should all sit and pray together for this government! May it get a backbone, may it."
"Do we sit and pray with the Minister of Religious Affairs?"
"Who is that? A cleric?"
"Well no, not quite - it's Ijazul Haq. You know the son of the man who got us the Hudood Ordinance."
"So what next? The sins of the father will be..."
