Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Junaid Iqbal Chaudhry has directed the authorities to set up Mosques Surveillance Committees in line with the contingency plan to avert any untoward incident in the Federal Capital.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting convened here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Commissioner, which was also attended by DC Islamabad, IGP, SSP and other officers of relevant departments to review the security situation in Islamabad after the shocking terrorist attacks on Imambargahs and mosques in Karachi.
Chief Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Tariq Mehmood Pirzada to look into the matter personally and streamline these surveillance committees as part of security plan.
The meeting also reviewed overall law and order situation in the Federal Capital and asked the SSP to further tighten the security apparatus in and around the mosques, Imambargahs and churches.
Chief Commissioner also asked the Deputy Commissioner to fix a speed limit in co-operation with Capital Development Authority (CDA) at the accident-prone roads to minimise the ratio of fatal accidents in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) Thursday busted at least eight inter-provincial gangs involved in vehicle theft cases and arrested 38 person. Police have also recovered around 42 stolen vehicles including 4 motor bikes from their possession.
According to police, the crackdown against these gangs was launched on the directives of SSP Islamabad, Shahid Nadeem Baloch.
The task to trace the culprits was given to the ACLC Inspector Abdul Raziq. The ACLC team finally apprehended the gangs red handed.
During the preliminary investigation, the accused have confessed and said they had stolen 42 vehicles from twin cities.
They said that stolen cars were sold to few people in the tribal areas of NWFP.
ICT Police also constituted teams and dispatched to NWPF for recovering more stolen vehicles. Police said that ACLC recovered more than 80 vehicles during last six months.
