Horrifying images of Iraqi prisoners of war should serve as a lesson to Muslims not to resort to extremism rather than stoke anger against the United States, Malaysian leader Abdullah Badawi said on Saturday.
"These are lessons for us. We do not have to go to the same experiences to know what it means," the Malaysian Prime Minister said in an interview broadcast by CNN.
"Let the experience be a lesson to us to make sure it doesn't happen to us." Abdullah was asked how a mostly-Muslim nation such as Malaysia is able to contain anti-Western sentiment as the world reels from media exposes of US mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners.
"We have a path of moderation," he said. "Development is our priority, national unity, good community relations.
"This is what has given us the advantage. We have been successful because of peace, so this has to be maintained at all cost," he added.
