Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has said that revolutionary changes will be introduced in agriculture and industrial sectors and President Musharraf will soon be announcing a major project aimed at boosting the agriculture sector.
The government has also started a number of mega development projects in various cities of the province, including Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Gujranwala, he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the newly-constructed underpass near Jinnah Hospital and Doctors Hospital here on Sunday.
He said that both underpasses had been completed before the stipulated time while an amount of Rs 110 million was saved.
He said that work on Lahore Ring Road would commence from July this year.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also announced that construction of Dharampura underpass and Mian Mir Hospital underpasses would be started very soon. Moreover, he said, the government has launched many other projects, including rehabilitation of the sewerage system in the walled city.
The chief minister informed the audience that construction of Committee Chowk underpass has also been started which will be completed with Rs 300 million. Similarly, construction of Jhal Khanoana flyover in Faisalabad is in progress which will be completed at a cost of Rs 450 million.
Moreover Multan Institute of Cardiology set up at a cost of Rs one billion would be inaugurated soon, Pervez Elahi said.
The chief minister reiterated that Lahore would be made a model city of Punjab and added that construction of underpasses would help in streamlining the flow of traffic in the city.
About construction of carriageway from Wahga border, he said it would soon be initiated and would be completed with Rs 450 million.
About education sector, he said that the government has decided to upgrade all middle schools to high schools in the next budget.
Punjab Minister for Communication & Works Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din said that his department and the staff of the construction company worked day and night to complete the two underpasses.
District Nazim Amir Mahmood said that these underpasses would play an important role in facilitating the people of Lahore.
