Sujawal police on Saturday night conducted raids on two godowns and recovered edible oil, donated by Unicef, and arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the hoarding.
Police said that they received information from a secret agency about large-scale embezzlement in the supply of edible oi1 for students by Unicef.
Police took action and recovered the oil worth thousands of rupees.
As per police, the oil that was supplied for free distribution to students was being sold to some traders by the officials of Education Department for a long time.
Those arrested during the raids have been identified as Hasan Pareri, driver of EDO (Female) Sujawal, trader Ghulam Qadir and one Sikandar Shaikh.
They were booked in an FIR and further investigation has been started.
Taluka Police Officer (TPO) Sujawal Mukhtiar Solangi said that several officials of Education Department were allegedly involved in the crime. He said that the officers would also be arrested after due legal formalities.
He said that the oil was also being sold in other Talukas instead of giving to students as a nutrient as envisaged by the Unicef programme.
Meanwhile, the secret agencies have also initiated investigations against several senior and administrative officials of the Education Department and the traders involved in this scam.
