The government has assured carpet manufacturers and exporters that the idea of establishing Carpet City will be considered while formulating new Trade Policy, a spokesman of Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PCMEA) said here on Wednesday.
In a press statement he said that delegation of Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PCMEA), held meeting with Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan in Islamabad.
The delegation was led by Major Akhtar Nazir Khan (Retd), vice-chairman PCMEA who briefed the minister about integrated manufacturing of carpets and environment-related obligations of World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Akhtar Nazir stated that the proposed Carpet City would be a cluster of weaving and finishing units group together to produce specialised carpets for export in order to provide an opportunity to small and medium entrepreneurs to develop value-added carpets & rugs.
The finishing units may operate under one roof, or in one locality, sharing common facilities, such as a training centre, an import warehouse, water treatment plants, transport and logistic services, etc.
The minister expressed keen interest in the proposal and termed it beneficial for industry.
The PCMEA delegation also met CBR Chairman and presented various proposals.
