Rais Munir Ahmed, Minister of State for Minorities, Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth Affairs will attend an international conference on "Eurasia in 21st Century: Dialogue of Cultures or Conflict of Civilisations," being held in Kyrgyzstan from June 10-11.
He will attend the conference at the joint invitation of President Askar Akaev of Kyrgyzstan and Unesco's Director General Koichiro Mastuura.
The conference will focus on the important issues like cultural diversity, sustainable development, and commonalty of values and their role in strengthening the prospects of dialogue among civilisations, says a press release.
During the conference, the minister of state will highlight Pakistan's efforts for the promotion of dialogue and co-operation between the regions of Central Asia, Eurasia and in South Asia.
On this occasion, the minister will also highlight the relevance of President Musharraf's strategy of "enlightened moderation advocates a two pronged approach: to fight extremism and to promote moderation and to seek a just resolution of political disputes involving Muslims around the world."
The concept calls for ending discrimination and stereotyping of Muslims in the Western societies. The concept of enlightened moderation, which has been endorsed by the OIC, emphasises collective efforts by the Islamic countries for their social and economic development.
