About Rs six billion would be spent during the next fiscal year for providing pure water to Punjab residents, Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering, Mushtaq Ahmad Kayani said in an interview with PTV on Wednesday.
He said, far-flung areas of the province would be provided pure drinking water on priority. Out of Rs 6 billion, new schemes worth Rs 2.5 billion would be initiated in collaboration with tehsil governments. While the remaining amount would be spent on rehabilitation of incomplete schemes.
An amount of Rs 209 million has been released to complete 409 incomplete schemes before June 30.
Likewise, Rs 4.5 billion, Asian Development Bank (ADB) assisted four year programme is being carried out in the province. 250 incomplete schemes would be rehabilitated. 750 water supply schemes would be completed within the stipulated period.
To-date, as many as 200 schemes have already been completed.
The inauguration ceremony of a completed scheme will be held in Attock next weeks, he added.
Under lining the need for active public participation in the schemes, he said the schemes were being handed over to user committees after completion.
