An Appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Wednesday admitted an appeal preferred by Abdul Qadir Tawwakal of Tawwakal group of companies against conviction and sentence awarded by an Accountability Court at Karachi.
The appellant/accused was sentenced to a ten-year term on change of wilful default. The appellant obtained a loan facility of rupees 97 million from Allied Bank of Pakistan (ABL).
The bench after hearing the counsel for appellant admitted the appeal for regular hearing issuing notice to state for a date to be fixed later by the office of the court.
The same bench also admitted an appeal preferred by Zafar Iqbal and Shaukat assailing death sentence awarded to them by an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) at Karachi a week back in a kidnapping for ransom case.
According to prosecution, accused/appellants invited a local contractor Aslam Lodhi and six co-workers to a dinner but later held them hostage and demanded a ransom of rupees 0.5 million.
They later agreed to receive Rs 150,000 but were arrested by police.
