The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench to announce decision of the appeal of Asif Ali Zardari in a Steel Mills reference, within 15 days.
The Court comprising Justice Mohammad Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Rana Bhagwandas and Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday issued the directive during hearing of an appeal for announcement of the decision by LHC, Rawalpindi Bench.
The appeal was filed by counsel of Asif Ali Zardari, Abdul Hafeez Pirzada and Farooq H Naik for quashment of punishment with immediate release of their client from jail.
They pleaded that their client has already undergone the imprisonment period.
Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench reserved decision of the appeal filed by Asif Ali Zardari in Steel Mills reference against punishment and fine.
Asif was awarded seven years imprisonment and Rs 40 million fine in the Steel Mills reference.
