Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan, has said that oil tankers terminal at Shirin Jinnah Colony Clifton, will be shifted to a 400-acre site adjacent to PSO Zulfikarabad Oil Terminal at National Highway.
He said concrete steps are also being taken for the shifting of inter-city bus terminal set up in city's various residential and commercial areas to Super Highway, National Highway and RCD Highway.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting held to discuss the shifting of Oil Terminal to National Highway.
Through maps and charts, the City Nazim was informed that PSO has built Zulfikarabad Oil Terminal at National Highway where a building has also been constructed at a cost of 12.50 million for driver's training and provision of other facilities including canteen.
It was pointed out that shifting of Shirin Jinnah Colony Oil Terminal to the site adjacent to Zulfikarabad Oil Terminal will greatly help reduce pressure on road traffic as well as check environmental pollution.
Naimatullah was informed that PSO has 4000 registered oil tankers and about 900 trucks and tankers lift oil from the terminal daily.
EDO Transport Dr Tahir Soomro informed that about 1200 tankers arrive in city daily from outside Karachi and plying of heavy vehicles into the city limits is one of the causes of traffic jams and accidents. Besides these also cause damage to roads. He said there is need to hold dialogue with Oil Tankers Owners Association for shifting of Oil Tankers Terminal from Shirin Jinnah Colony.
It was decided that a meeting will be held under the chairmanship of City Nazim in which representatives of Oil Tankers Owners Association besides all the oil companies would be invited so as to find out some solution with an understanding for shifting of oil tankers terminal.
After the meeting the City Nazim had a detailed visit to Zulfikarabad Oil Terminal where he was informed that after establishment of oil tankers terminal on an area of 400 acres, the tankers will save covering a distance of 80 km and will also save diesel.
