Pakistan will urge world nations at United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad) conference being held in Brazil from June 11 to encourage innovative measures to promote a fair trade and investment.
This was stated by Federal Minister for Privatisation and Investment Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, while talking to newsmen at the inauguration of metal sculpture by a famous artist Amin Gulgee here on Tuesday.
He said the conference would discuss ways and means to introduce innovative measures for trade and investment promotion on the globe. "Every country gives its views at the conference about how to promote trade and investment, and I will present Pakistan's point of view and suggestions on this subject," Dr Hafeez added.
He said more than 100 countries from around the world would attend that conference organised by the Unctad every four years.
To a question regarding KESC's prospective buyers meeting in Islamabad, the Minister said the outcome of the deliberations with three buyers would be announced in next two to three weeks.
Earlier, speaking at the inauguration of sculpture, he said it was a combination of modernity and tradition. That sculpture reminded of our glorious past, he added.
Dr Hafeez was of the view that two forces were struggling to gain supremacy in Karachi. One force wanted to hurt and scare the city while another wanted to flourish love.
The erecting of Amin Gulgee' s sculpture indicated that the good guys were the winner in the struggle. Amin Gulgee said the sculpture was the outcome of one year's work and it was with the reference to Moen-jo-daro.
It was a combination of three parts and recalled the great civilisation that that country inherits, he added.
Critic Marjorie Rehman appreciated the work of Gulgee and said the artistic jewellery created by Gulgee were admired by top US designers.
Merck Marker Chief executive Abdul Baqi Khan, while speaking on behalf of the sponsors, said it was a pride for the sponsors that Gulgee created such a sculpture.
He said sponsors would not seek any commercial benefit out of that creative piece. That project would hopefully encourage investment in the arts.
