Danish grain prices slipped this week as sellers of malting barley struggled to unload the lingering remains of last year's crop in anticipation of the new harvest.
Danish brake quality-malting barley traded at 128-130 euros FOB June, traders said, down about nine euros from last week. "Sellers are selling out of the last of their stocks to get rid of what is left but there's virtually no demand," one trader said.
New crop barley traded at 131 euros per tonne FOB October delivery as the market got ready to fix the price of old crop to the new crop. One trader said more demand was now evident for new crop as malt sales to brewers pick up, which is normal for this time of year.
Continued dry weather could bring increased focus to climate conditions, making prices more volatile as harvest draws nearer, a trader said.
