Pakistan Railways Advisory Committee (Lahore) member Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi has demanded the speedy freight train service from Peshawar to promote exports, saying the service would ensure the movement of the containers between Karachi and Lahore in 30 hours.
In a press release issued here on Saturday, he also demanded of the Railway Ministry to start non-stop train service between Peshawar and Karachi as already launched from other cities of the country.
He said Karakuram and Jaffar Express have been started from Rawalpindi, and called for a review over the departure schedule of Peshawar-Rawalpindi Rail Car service.
Similarly, he said punctuality in the trains' schedules at Peshawar should also be ensured.
Sarhadi also called for the restoration of the suspended services of the express trains like Tezro, Tezgam from Peshawar so the passengers from this city should also be provided the same train facilities provided in other parts of the country.
Similarly, he said the facility of the computerised booking and advance booking on return ticket should also be extended to Peshawar.
He, who is also chairman of the Sarhad Chamber's Standing Committee on Railway Dryport and Frontier Customs Agents Group NWFP, reminded that previous governments have promised regarding laying of double track between Peshawar and Karachi.
He said instead of the construction of Motorway, the then-government should have spent the amount on the lying of the track, adding in the present circumstances, the development of the national economies depend on better communication system and called for the long time planning for the construction of the double railway track from Peshawar to Karachi.
Similarly, he also called for the acceleration of the railway links with Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Syria and Saudi Arabia.
He suggested the introduction of cargo information system in PR, saying that the implementation of the system would help increase the movement of the trains and besides exports other goods will also reached their destinations on time.
