The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Pakistan (WCCI) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together for economic and social development of women entrepreneurs in the two countries.
Under MoU, Confederation of Indian Industry and Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Pakistan would exchange professional experiences relating to services rendered to their respective members.
Underscoring the need for women's empowerment within the Saarc region, Begum Salma Ahmed, chairperson and chief-executive-officer, WCCI, dished out an idea for the creation of Saarc Women Entrepreneurs Council to prop up trade within the Saarc region.
Begum Salma Ahmed, who is leading a 15-member women's delegation, pointed out that the main purpose of her visit to India was to develop social and economic linkages. Begum Ahmed invited CII for a conference and exhibition at Karachi in September on behalf of WCCI.
Rumjhum Chatterjee, member of the CII National Committee on Women Empowerment, on occasion said India-Pakistan trade, which was around 300-400 million dollars during the last few years, would receive boost if the right steps were initiated and women entrepreneurs from both sides joined hands. The CII was working diligently towards women empowerment, she added.
Earlier, Indian and Pakistani businesswomen discussed ways and means to foster trade ties between the two countries.
