Scores of vehicles, shops, banks, signboards, police check posts and traffic signals were damaged by angry mob here at Regal Chowk, Zaib-un-Nisa Street and adjoining streets on Friday, who were protesting against assassination of PPP leader Munawar Suharwardi.
Infuriated and charged activists pelted vehicles with stones, rocks and shattered window panes with iron and wooden rods in Saddar and adjoining streets while they forced shops and markets to close in economic hub of the city.
Bonfires were lit on several roads and traffic was also disallowed to enter into Saddar area where emotionally charged youths destroyed traffic signals and police check-posts on streets around Regal Chowk.
They also damaged two banks, several shops, and advertisement signboards in the area and chanted slogans against the government, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, President Pervez Musharraf and Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan.
Angry protestors remained on roads in Saddar area for over two hours. They were protesting against assassination of PPP leader Munawar Suharwardi, who was killed by unidentified gunmen on Thursday in Karachi.
