Former Convener of The Founders and sitting Executive Committee Member Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi.
According to a press release, he was talking to a delegation of businessmen from Karachi who called on him here on Friday. The members of the delegation pointed out that the sense of insecurity amongst the business community in Karachi was rising due to bad law and order situation.
According to them, the tragic incidents such as murder of Mufti Shamzai, attack on Corps Commander Karachi and latest killing of Munawar Suharwardi have added to the panic already prevailing among the business community.
They said Munawar Suharwardi has become another prey to the same terrorist organisation involved in the killing of Mufti Shamzai and attack on Corps Commander Karachi.
It is because of the looming sense of insecurity that the business community has started shifting their businesses to different parts of Punjab, they said and added that how the government could invite foreign investors in Karachi under the prevailing law and order problem.
They claimed that some political groups having vested interest are active in Karachi to create another province within the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf said the business community in Punjab was fully aware of the sense of insecurity on the part of their counterparts in Karachi.
Therefore, he pointed out that the LCCI has been raising its voice against increasing lawlessness in Karachi from time to time. Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf also appealed to President Pervez Musharraf to take notice of the situation and address sharply the concerns of Karachiites, especially the business community.
He said since the law and order has direct link to the investment climate in any country, therefore, the President should intervene immediately to improve the situation for keeping intact the national integrity.
