The average price of Bangladesh teas rose on increased overseas demand at the weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said.
"Some 1.03 million kg were sold at an average price of 66.29 taka ($1.1) per kg, up 1.57 taka from the previous sale. The withdrawal percentage was 20.40," a market report by National Brokers Limited (NBL) said.
Buyers from Afghanistan and Bangladeshi blenders along with packeteers participated in the auction.
"The market was strong as Afghan buyers were more active for well made Brokens and Fannings," Rasul Nizam, managing director of NBL told Reuters.
Some 50 kg of well made Golden Broken Orange Pekoe realised the highest price of 131 taka per kg followed by another 50 kg Pekoe Fannings at 130 taka per kg.
Other grades were sold between 57 taka and 102 taka per kg. The next weekly auction will be held on June 29 with an expected offering of 1.15 million kg.
