Singapore government will utilise the technical expertise of Nadra in the identity cards project being initiated in its country.
The Singapore Interior Minister, Wong Kan Seng during his visit to the National Database and Registration Authority headquarters on Wednesday stated this while praising the technological advancement of the Authority.
He said technology being used by Nadra is the most modern in the region and will surely be helpful in e-projects of the Pakistan government.
Seng has been in Pakistan as part of the 22-member Singaporean delegation headed by Prime Minister, Goh Chok Tong.
Seng said, "Nadra project can be used as a model for the ID cards project in Singapore". He added that machine-readable passports being launched by Nadra was first of its kind and the dual identity check features (ie Biometrics and database) were unique in nature, which have never been applied in any country.
The Singapore minister said he was impressed to see the state of the art technology and sophisticated systems software developed by Nadra.
Computerisation of data pertaining to 55 million people in short span of time is a gigantic task and Nadra completed it impressively, he added.
Earlier, Chairman Nadra Brig Saleem Ahmed Moeen (Retd) while briefing the Minister said that software being used by Nadra have been developed by Pakistani IT experts and professionals.
Saleem Moeen said the Authority has introduced a system of on-line verification of an individual. "Such systems are in vogue in developed countries to check crime as each identity card can be verified on-line for its authenticity before carrying out any financial or material transaction", he added.
The chairman informed the Minister that Nadra since its inception in March 2000 has come a long way despite the fact that it had no model to follow for the operation of state of the art technology and accomplished all tasks without any foreign assistance.
