The City District Government of Karachi (CDGK) on Wednesday has started improvement and rehabilitation of Jehangir Road from Gurumandir to Teen Hatti.
The reconstruction project is being undertaken by the CDGK under the Tameer-e-Karachi programme, which will be completed in about seven-month period at an estimated cost of Rs 35.265 million.
City Nazim Naimatullah Khan stated this while laying the foundation stone of the project. He expressed the resolve that his government would turn Karachi into a beautiful international city facilitated with a well-coordinated and strong network of broad and durable arteries/highways.
He mentioned that soon after the completion of Jehangir Road, the reconstruction/development projects would also be launched for Business Recorder road, M.A. Jinnah road, M.T. Khan road and Hino Chowk road.
He pointed out that all these roads were being built up at par with the international standards in which the latest technology, ASHTO, is being used.
Besides road improvement projects, the CDGK would construct fly-overs at Hasan Square and Sohrab Goth, while KPT and Pakistan Steel would also build fly-overs in their respective areas, he added.
Regarding the transport system in the city, he hoped that soon a visible improvement would take place in the system as the city government currently was engaged in evolving a comprehensive transport policy under which new air-conditioned and comfortable buses would be plied, and the inter-city terminals would be moved out of the city.
EDO, Works and Services, Shoaib Siddiqui, Abid Ilyas and Qazi Sadaruddin were also present on the occasion.
