The government on Wednesday constituted the anomalies committee, headed by Naved Ahsan, Secretary, Finance, and decided to receive anomalies from stake holders up to June 30, 2004.
The committee would have four members including secretaries of commerce, industries, planning, and secretary revenue division.
After receiving the budget anomalies in duties and taxes from the stakeholders who have been affected by the budgetary proposals the anomalies would be looked into within the next few days and, by June 30, the committee would finalise its recommendations.
The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) had already received a number of anomalies from the stake holders including industries, traders and other businesses.
The CBR is in the process of identifying the real anomalies from the number of anomalies it had received since in certain cases the anomalies sent to the CBR are not anomalies but proposals, which would not be entertained by the said committee.
The anomalies that are sent for the review to the government generally include certain budgetary decisions which have violated the general rules and acts governing the taxes and duties regime in the country.
There are also anomalies like if some sector is getting protection under certain rule and in the federal budget 2004-05 that protection has been withdrawn in violation of some agreement then it would be considered as an anomaly and would be referred to the committee.
The CBR prepares a document for the committee that carries the anomaly and the proposed rectification or some other remedy that can be considered by the committee for accepting or rejecting the same.
