Pakistan Industrial & Traders Associations Front (Piaf) has urged the government to bring down import duty on tin plates from 25 percent to 10 percent, to ensure availability of cheaper packing material.
The Piaf Chairman, Muhammad Ali Mian during a meeting, made this demand with a delegation of the Punjab Tinplate Association (TPA) here on Wednesday.
According to a spokesman of the Piaf, the President of the TPA Zaheer Ahmed Malik led the delegation while Piaf Vice-chairman Mubashar Sheikh was also present in this meeting.
Muhammad Ali Mian stated that tinplate was basically a packing material used in manufacturing of packing of ghee, paint and varnish. He added that there was no factory in Pakistan manufacturing tinplate except one processing unit, which used to coat tin on raw material. Due to hike in tinplate price globally, prices of small and big packing of ghee have also registered increase from Rs 5 to Rs 10.
He said that the government had reduced duty on steel products from 25 percent to 10 percent.
He appealed to the finance minister and chairman CBR to bring down import duty on tinplate to 10 percent.
