The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) will shortly devise criteria for brining mega units of Lahore under the jurisdiction of Large Taxpayers' Unit (LTU).
In this regard, a meeting for the selection of Lahore LTU cases would shortly take place at the board.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday that the criteria for selection of units to be brought under the LTU would include annual turnover of units, profit and taxes paid by them.
Encouraged by the success of Karachi LTU, another LTU is being established at Lahore and shall be functional by the end of August, 2004.
The third LTU will be established at Islamabad in 2005 for which the work has already been started.
LTU was first launched in Karachi on July 1, 2002. The unit, which started with 300 cases, is now functioning with 600 large companies of Karachi, and is acclaimed as one of the best Large Taxpayers' Unit in the region.
Besides increasing revenues, the unit has created confidence and trust amongst the taxpayers as cohesive and focused teams of facilitators and collectors have been appointed to handle these cases.
Encouraged by the success of Karachi LTU, a Medium Taxpayers' Unit (MTU) was established at Lahore during the last year with 10,000 cases - now expanded to 100,000 taxpayers. On the demand of taxpayers, MTUs are being established at Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Quetta and Karachi during this year.
