An accountability court presided over by Judge Attaullah Khan convicted and sentenced Syed Qasim Shah, former Senator and minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas for four years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and Rs 36.2 million fine for accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income.
According to a NAB press release issued here on Thursday, the accused has been minister for Northern Areas and Kashmir Affairs in 1985, member Provincial Assembly NWFP in 1993 and Senator in 1998.
The NAB (Frontier) had filed a reference of Rs 176.155 million against the accused for accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income.
He has now been arrested after his conviction by the Accountability Court, Peshawar, since he was on bail on medical grounds.
