The Sindh government has banned the entry of MMA leaders Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Qazi Hussain Ahmed into the province for 15 days.
Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, while talking to newsmen after the oath-taking ceremony of 12 new ministers held at the Governor House on Friday, said that the ban had been imposed on the entry of MMA leaders into Sindh to maintain law and order.
He said that it was the responsibility of the government to maintain law and order, protect lives and properties, and keep the economic activity going. Arbab Ghulam Rahim said that Sindh could not afford to be in turmoil all the time. He said in clear terms that the ban had nothing to do with any suggestion from the MQM.
"I have taken this decision in the greater interest of the people of the province and it has nothing to do with any political party. It is my decision and no one else's."
The chief minister said that the MMA wanted to take out a rally in Karachi. "In my opinion they should confine their activities in the province where they have their own government."
"The world is now a global village and if they take out a peace rally in Peshawar everybody would come to know it."
He said that in case peaceful means failed, force would be applied to maintain law and order in the city.
"People know the designs of these people and they would defeat their intentions to disturb life in Karachi," he added.
In his brief remarks, Sindh governor Ishratul Ibad said that the chief minister had taken a right decision in order to maintain law and order in the city.
Ibad said people knew the kind of peace rally they (MMA) usually take out. It brings destruction and nothing else.
As a result of strike call recently given by the MMA life in Karachi came to a standstill, properties were damaged and public and private transport were set on fire.
"We would not let this happen again," the Governor categorically said.
Ibad said, "Karachi is not a playground. Political parties should better know this."
He appealed to the leaders of the opposition parties to refrain from making use of rallies and protest marches to gain political mileage at the cost of lives and destruction of properties.
In case of need, strict measures would be adopted to implement the decision in respect of ban on entry of the MMA leaders, the Governor said.
