Justice Fakhrun Nisa Khokhar of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has said that women are being ignored in the higher judiciary.
While addressing a reception arranged by lady lawyers in her honour here on Saturday, she said that after her retirement there was not a single woman judge in the higher judiciary.
"Only one percent women are working in lower judiciary which shows that the government have no confidence in the women. How the government could maintain the impression of progressiveness in the world when women would be ignored in the judiciary?" she said.
Fakhrun Nisa maintained that she was the senior most judge of the Lahore High Court but unfortunately she was not appointed as the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court. She said that after her retirement no woman would be able to become Chief Justice of the LHC for as long as thirty years.
President Lahore High Court Bar Association Ahmed Awais said on the occasion that the government has violated the decision of the Supreme Court pertaining to appointment of the judges in higher courts.
He said that the government has made 33 percent representation of the women in the parliament but ignored the judiciary, as there was not a single woman in the higher judiciary now.
