The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) has hailed the nomination of Senator Shaukat Aziz as the next Prime Minister.
Prgmea Chairman Tahir Aziz said the biggest achievements of the former finance minister was to get the country rid of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, which resulted in a lot of conditionalities, hampering the policies for the promotion of businesses. The Prgmea chief said he helped the country achieve over six percent gross domestic product (GDP) growth and focussed the growth at eight percent for the next financial year.
He said that with the era of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq coming to end, the world would lay greater focus on economic development and Shauakt Aziz was the best suited person to lead the country in economic war due to be ensued with the start of the World Trade Organisation regime from 2005.
"It is heartening to note that the prime minister in-waiting would also keep the portfolio of finance along with his responsibilities as the chief executive," he said, adding that this would help him to continue his focus on economic development more than any other aspect.
