President General Pervez Musharraf urged the elected representatives on Tuesday to strive for all-round progress of the country by devising development policies in keeping with requirements of the masses.
He stated this while addressing a delegation of PML Parliamentarians, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, and exchanged views with him on the political environment.
The President said it is the duty of the elected leaders that they work collectively for across-the-board development of the nation by materialising facilities in basic education and health sectors.
"At the same time, we must think and act futuristically; we must focus on the human resource development of our 'future generations - therefore, concerted efforts by all for durable progress is the underlying need of the moment", the President stressed.
Musharraf asked the MPs to make use of the opportunity offered by the recent economic turnaround, which has been possible due to consistency and continuity of key reforms introduced in the last few years.
"We must rise above all other considerations and work harmoniously for the completion of projects initiated for long-term advancement in agricultural, industrial and scientific fields", he advised.
The President also underscored the importance of fostering values of tolerance and brotherhood to face the internal security challenges confronting the nation in the form of religious extremism and terrorism.
The parliamentarians lauded the President's emphasis on moderation and enlightenment and vowed to work for the betterment of the people.
The MPs, who called on the President included Mohammad Farhan Latif, Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Rao Mohammad Ajmal Khan, Saeed Ahmed Chaudhry, Khwaja Shiraz Mehmood Sardar Saleem Jan Mazari, Dr Abdul Ghaffar Khan Jatoi, Qazi Abdul Quddus Rajar, Sheikh Waqar Akram, and Ms Meena Ehsan Leghari.
