'Foggy conditions responsible for power breakdowns'

The present foggy condition and dew in coastal areas specially in late nights are responsible for power breakdowns in some parts of the city.
When contacted, a KESC spokesman said that a team of corporation's engineers would carry out survey tonight to ascertain the problems and suggest remedial measures.
Bin Qasim, Korangi West and FDA scheme 33 are the areas from where High Tension (HT) wires run and power supply is interrupted. He said that complaints of power break downs are received in wee hours.
The spokesman said that clue to dew, the dust blow with the winds specially in coastal areas, and rests on High Tension (HT) wire causing flash-over which ultimately result in tripping and power break down.
However, according to him, that the duration of breakdown in affected areas does not last for more than forty-minutes.
The KESC team, he pointed out, will also examine HT wires during survey try foot and point out the spots where the wire is found weak.
The spokesman said that there are two ways to overcome this problem, to clean HT manually with brush by scaling up Extra High Tension wires poles and secondly wait when rain falls and wash the HT wires.
