Muhammad Nisar Shekhani, Chairman, Site Association of Industry (SAI), has lauded the nomination of Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz as next Prime Minister of Pakistan.
In a congratulatory message, Shekhani said that the business community is aware of his acumen and the pivotal role he played in bringing the national economic to this robust growth and accomplishing the economic agenda of President Pervez Musharraf, as Advisor to the President from November 1999, and then as Finance Minister since 2002. His incentive-laden and growth-oriented Budget 2004-05 and the fiscal strength of this country speak volumes of his capabilities and foresightedness.
He said that "we all are positive that Pakistan will further progress, economically, under his stewardship, as the Prime Minister. Our prosperity and progress is possible only through economic emancipation, and only then can we take our place with dignity in the comity of respected nations".
Expressing apprehension, he said that the only point that may create some problem is that he is not a politician; otherwise business community has full confidence in his expertise.
His credentials and rapport with the Western countries are established and, as a Prime Minister, he shall be in a position to negotiate and deal with these governments more favourably especially for trade and investment.
However, law and order is still a prerequisite for the foreign investment besides other issues like security, equity, prompt justice, transparency and accountability. Much would depend on how the new premier tackles these issues, he said.
He said that economic decision would, hopefully, be implemented more forcefully in new premier's tenure besides ensuring consistency in policies in a more effective manner. "Economy is expected to grow stronger", he added.
He also offered him unstinted support and co-operation of the industrialists of Site, Karachi.
