The government has announced that confiscated Indian goods would not be released on payment of fine.
The goods of Indian origin brought into Pakistan in violation of Import Trade Procedure Order, 2003-04 would be outrightly confiscated and would not be released on payment of fine.
However, goods covered under Appendix-B of the Import Trade and Procedures Order, 2000 would not be subjected to this decision.
The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has amended SRO.374(I)/2002 through SRO.(I)/ 2002, issued here on Wednesday.
Previously, the customs did not give option of payment of fine in lieu of confiscation of smuggled goods falling under clause (s) of section 2 of the Customs Act, 1969 (IV of 1969), or goods imported in violation of section 15 of the Customs Act, 1969 (IV of 1969), or banned items notified vide Appendix-A of the Import Trade and Procedures Order, 2000.
Now, the CBR has included Indian origin goods in the list of those confiscated items, which could not be released on submission of fine.
Following is the text of the notification issued here on Wednesday:
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 181 of the Customs Act, 1969 (IV of 1969), the Central Board of Revenue is pleased to direct that the following amendment shall be made in its notification No. SRO.374(I)/2002, dated the June 15, 2002, namely:
In the aforesaid notification, in clause (a), after the word "Appendix-A", the words and letter "and Indian origin goods other than those covered in Appendix-B", shall be inserted.
