The Pakistan Muslim League is considering to appoint former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali parliamentary party leader in the National Assembly.
Party sources told Business Recorder that some other names, including Hamid Nasir Chattha, were also under consideration, however, Jamali was most likely to be given the slot.
The matter came up for discussion during Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain's interaction with President General Pervez Musharraf and other party leaders on Wednesday.
The party leadership was willing to relieve Shujaat Hussain of his role as parliamentary leader, after he assumed the office of prime minister, sources pointed out.
However, final decision would be taken at the specially convened meeting of the PML shortly, taking those, who matter, into confidence, sources said in reply to a question.
"It will be below his dignity to work as mere MNA after his stint as the chief executive," a minister told Business Recorder, requesting anonymity.
Sources said that the former prime minister had given no hint that he would not accept the responsibility of the parliamentary leader.
While announcing his resignation, Jamali had said he would like to work as an ordinary worker of the PML. Before assuming the office of prime minister, he was PML (Q) secretary-general.
Jamali had to retreat when the Chaudhrys from Gujrat had objected to his bid to act as the party's secretary-general after unification of the PML with other factions - National Alliance and Sindh Democratic Alliance.
