Three people including a woman were killed and five others injured when armed men opened fire at their bus in northern Pakistan, an official said Sunday.
"A junior commissioned officer of the Pakistan army, conductor of the bus and a woman traveller, Ruqiyya Begum, were killed when unknown armed men opened fire on their bus late (Saturday) night," Kohistan district administration official Hussain Ahmed told AFP on Sunday.
Ahmed said the bus was travelling towards the northern town of Skardu when four to five masked gunmen intercepted the bus at about 2:00am, some 350 kilometres south-west of Gilgit.
The driver of the bus did not stop and the bandits opened fire before fleeing the scene, Ahmed said.
He said two of the five injured were in critical condition in hospital.
