About 500 special buses will be acquired for the city under Urban Transport Scheme by the next year.
This was stated at a high level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjrani here on Saturday.
Additional Chief Secretary, Local Governments Saleem Khan and District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) of Sindh province attended the meeting.
The meeting was told that City Government has held meetings with 25 transport companies in this regard. The meeting was informed that work on Karachi Mass Transit Scheme was going on.
DCO Karachi said that inter-city bus terminals will be shifted outside the city.
He informed the meeting that due to absence of magisterial system, the menace of encroachment and profiteering was on the rise as land mafia and profiteers were not respecting city government officers.
On this occasion, the Chief Secretary instructed the Additional Chief Secretary, Local Governments to propose a line of action in accordance with Employment, Posting and Transfer (EPT) Rules for devising a procedure for substituting the magisterial system.
Chief Secretary asked the DCOs to submit their performance reports and problems facing them on regular basis to Additional Chief Secretary of LG for rapid solutions.
CS asked officials to serve common citizens at every level and do not resort to confrontation or negative tactics.
ACS LG directed the DCO Karachi to settle the payment of electricity dues after reconciliation of bills. He asked DCO to get disconnection of electricity supply to abandoned octroi posts, district councillors and colonies.
He underlined the need for the establishment of Citizen Community Boards (CCB) in every district and asked DCOs of Karachi, Shikarpur and Dadu to register their CCBs for expediting development works in their areas.
