Punjab government attaches great importance to improvement of roads network in the province and has allocated huge sum of Rs 8.15 billion in the annual budget for the year 2004-05 for the purpose.
According to official sources, the huge amount has been allocated for communication sector to ensure completion of on-going projects and new road projects across the province.
Allocation made in the budget for current fiscal year for road sector is Rs 1.859 billion more as compared to revised estimates for this sector last year.
The sources said that all areas have been given due importance in allocation of funds for roads.
Giving details, the sources said that Rs 284 million have been earmarked for repair and reconstruction of roads of district Lahore, Rs 39.69 million for roads of district Sheikhupura, Rs 93.28 million for Kasur, Rs 21.54 million for district Okara, Rs 50.666 million for district Gujranwala, Rs 330.94 million for district Gujrat, Rs l96.07 million for district Sialkot and Rs 56.83 million for district Narowal.
The sources said that Rs 142.895 million have been allocated for road projects of district Mandi Bahauddin, Rs 467,77 million for road schemes of district Rawalpindi, Rs 36.10 million for district Attock, Rs 38.55 million for district Jhelum, Rs 49.50 million for district Chakwal, Rs 88.58 million for district Khushab and Rs 13.06 million for district Mianwali.
The sources said that sufficient funds have also been allocated for road schemes of south zone.
An amount of Rs 718.12 million has been earmarked for road schemes of district Faisalabad, Rs 93.24 million for district T.T Singh, Rs 15.04 million for district Jhang, Rs 149.18 million for district Multan, Rs 140,02 million for district Vehari, Rs 61.865 million for district Sahiwal, Rs 30.00 million for district Bahawalpur, Rs 61.25 million for district Bahawalnagar, Rs 85.69 million for district Rahim Yar Khan and Rs 130.00 million for road scheme of district Muzaffarahad.
