London wheat prices ended mostly flat on Monday, with new crop staying above last week's contract lows amid subdued trade.
Dealers said spot July delivery continued to slip ahead of Wednesday's expiry, dipping 50 pence to 73.00 pounds on 30 lots.
Liffe new crop January wheat settled unchanged at 70 pounds a tonne on 10 lots.
"July is seeing book squaring ahead of the contract's close on Wednesday lunch time," one broker said. "It's a bit on the defensive, representing the tone in the physical market."
Traders took a back seat as far as new crop contracts were concerned. Growers across Europe were waiting to see how crops would come in towards the end of August.
"The weather over the next few weeks will play a part, but in the mean time, it is very thin on the ground."
