Argentine export commitments of 2003/04 corn totalled 6.635 million tonnes by July 2, up from 6.04 million tonnes the week before, the Agriculture Department said on Monday.
By the same date last year, corn sales totalled 7.24 million tonnes.
Argentina reported sales last week of 100,000 tonnes of corn each to Portugal and Malaysia, and 50,000 tonnes apiece to Egypt, Israel, Peru and Tunisia.
The department also reported sales of 30,000 tonnes to Colombia, 25,000 tonnes to Spain and 140,000 tonnes to unspecified destinations.
The government's sales data refers to corn seeded starting in August 2003, the harvest of which began in February 2004. The US Department of Agriculture forecasts that Argentine exports of 2003/04 corn will total 8.5 million tonnes.
