Ukraine is likely to increase its rapeseed crop to 146,000 tonnes in 2004 from about 50,000 last year due to an increased area, analysts said on Monday.
APK-Inform said Ukraine had sown 190,000 hectares to rapeseed this year and the yield could average about one tonne per hectare.
Last year the country sowed 222,000 but severe weather killed more than 150,000 hectares.
Ukraine's government has repeatedly urged farmers to increase rapeseed sowing to replace sunflowers, which exhaust soil quickly.
The country has sown about 3.5 million hectares to sunflower this year and plans to harvest between 3.7 and 4.0 million tonnes of sunseed. Ukraine harvested a record 4.2 million in 2003.
