Lahore High Court (LHC), while setting a woman Shakila at liberty, who refused to go with her husband, has observed that one could not keep his wife forcibly with him under the law.
The court passed these orders in a petition filed by one Aitbar Khan who approached the court against Iftikhar Hussain husband of his daughter.
The petitioner contended that after marriage they come to know that Iftikhar Hussain is mentally ill and used to beat Shakila severely. He said that his daughter was not ready to maintain relations with her husband but the respondent was not giving her divorce.
The respondent Mukhtar contended before the court the petitioner had obtained Rs 100,000 from him at the time of his marriage and he will not give divorce to his wife until they did not pay back his money. The court, after hearing the respondent set the woman at liberty, and observed that the respondent might approach the proper forum for redressal of his grievance.
HEARING PUT OFF IN ELECTION PLEA: Lahore High Court (LHC) Wednesday adjourned the proceedings in an election petition filed by Provincial Minister, Aleem Khan against Tahir-ul-Qadri MNA to July 19.
The petitioner contended that the respondent Tahir-ul-Qadri rigged election in NA-127. He prayed to the court to disqualify and make the respondent unseat. He also prayed to the court to direct the respondent election commissioner to hold fresh elections in the constituency in question.
