'15 percent loading on paper import illogical'
The price indicative system and 15 percent loading on import of paper and paperboard is illogical.
Central Board of Revenue (CBR) Chairman Abdullah Yousuf said this recently, while talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Paper Merchants Association led by its Chairman Mohammad Akram Malik, an association press release issued here on Wednesday said.
Other members of the delegation include Shaikh Ziauddin, Chairman, Southern Circle, Syed Shahnawaz Ali, President, Southern Circle, Abdullah Zubair, Chairman, Standing Committee on Customs and Valuation, Khalil Ahmad Malik, former chairman and member Central Committee, Samiullah Butt and Haji Bashir Ahmed.
The delegation apprised the CBR chairman of the difficulties faced by the importers due to imposition of enhanced indicative price list by 15 percent since May 8 at Karachi Customs.
The CBR chairman's attention was drawn towards the fact that Karachi Customs is arbitrary imposing loading, which is against the international agreements and causing losses to the government exchequer. He was informed that smugglers were taking advantage of the situation at the cost of honest importers. These illegal actions are being taken under the direction of Member Customs.
Abdullah Yousuf gave a patient hearing and assured that illegal actions would be discouraged and justice would be done with paper merchants and their problems would be resolved without delay.-PR
