Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) is contemplating to open a display centre of Pakistani products named as "Pakistan House" in Tajikistan in order to tap potential of this market.
Tajikistan government and Tajikistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry are also extending support in this regard.
This was revealed by the LCCI President Mian Anjum Nisar while speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday. Anjum and his colleague Mian Shafqat briefed the media men about the success of "Made in Pakistan" exhibition arranged by the LCCI at Dushanbe from June 25 to 27, this year.
By holding this exhibition, LCCI has become the first chamber of the country to hold a single country exhibition abroad. Exhibitors initially got US 2 million dollars export orders, while it has been estimated that in next three to four years, our exports to Tajikistan could touch the mark of US 50 million dollars, he said.
He maintained that over 10,000 people visited this exhibition where 30 stalls of textile, traditional Pakistani garments, paints, steel furniture, handicraft, auto filter, rice, food products, surgical goods, pharmaceutical and office stationery, biscuits, nimko, honey etc were set up. Ambassadors from 18 countries including Iran, India and Turkey visited this exhibition along with their families, he claimed.
In his opinion, the government must depute a commercial counsellor in Pakistani embassy at Tajikistan, ensure a direct airlink with Tajikistan, frequent exchange of business delegation and open branch of Pakistani banks for easy transactions.
Mian Shafqat speaking on this occasion said that talks for joint ventures were also underway with Tajik businessmen. He said a delegation of Tajik businessmen would also visit Lahore in mid of August when further development would take place.
To a question, Mian Anjum Nisar also praised the role of Pakistani embassy in Tajikistan and said that despite not having a commercial section, they extended all out support in making the event a great success.
