Vintage and Classic Car Club of India (VCCCI), ASN of Federation International Vehicules Ancients (FIVA), Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) and Pakistan Motor Sports Association (PMSA) are holding a 'Vintage and Classic Car Rally' from India to Pakistan.
FIVA President and Honorary Secretary of VCCCI, Nintin G. Dossa revealed this in a press conference here on Saturday.
India-Pakistan car rally will start from New Delhi in January 2005. The participants of the rally, who will be flagged off from New Delhi, will reach Lahore after passing the Atari. After an overnight staying at Lahore, the rally participants will proceed to Islamabad, he added.
Both vintage and modern cars will be used in this rally from New Delhi to Islamabad, he maintained. He said this rally will not only a show of friendship but also a spectacular event that will strengthen the subcontinent's claim towards grabbing a bigger share of world motor sports.
Dossa said that entries in this rally will be restricted to approximately 50 each vintage and modern cars and will be confirmed after the vehicles pass the organiser's screening for roadworthiness.
Rare vintage and classic cars are likely to participate in the rally. The first entry is of well known film actor Jackie Shroff, who will be driving in Jaguar SS 100 and News Paper Barron Vivek Goenka of Indian Express in Bentley of 1935 Open Sports Tourer. News Paper Barron Hormuz Cama News paper Barren, owner of Bombay Smachar will be driving Rolls-Royce of 1947 while many entries from Pakistan are also expected, he claimed.
Secretary General PMSA Sardar Muhammad Humayun Khan said that this event would bring people of both the countries closer to each other. He expressed the hope that the governments of both the countries would extend their support to make this event a great success.
The bus and rail services are already in place between the two countries, but private car border crossing would be the first event after independence.
