Minister for Religious Affairs Ijaz-ul-Haq on Sunday rejecting the notion that there was any pressure on Pakistan to change its policies reiterated that no law would be framed in the country which is against the teachings of Islam.
Addressing the Ulema and Mashaikh convention here, he said Pakistan is an ideological state and no law here could be framed which is repugnant to Islamic injunctions.
"There is no pressure on Pakistan to take certain steps, nor will we accept any such pressure, which is not in conformity with our religious teachings," he said.
He said the concept of Enlightened Moderation as promoted by President General Pervez Musharraf is strictly an Islamic concept and is based on true Islamic values.
He said this concept needs to be pursued by vigour by all the Islamic states. The strategy not only calls upon the Muslim states to mend their ways, but also to the West to remove the injustices.
He said Islam condemns terrorism in al its forms and manifestations, whether it is state terrorism perpetrated by Israel in Palestine and the occupied Kashmir, or by an individual.
He said the global situation requires that we take every step cautiously and strengthen our belief in Islam.
Ijazul Hag said the purpose of the convention was to formulate consultative committees of Ulema and Mashaikh to give suggestions to the government on important national issues.
He said the challenges confronting the Muslim Ummah are numerous and need to be tackled through media and in the cyber world.
The minister was also grateful to the religious scholars for foiling the "nefarious designs" of those who wanted to destabalise the country following a spate of sectarian, killings.
He said the Ulema and the people of Pakistan fully realise that there is no actual sectarian divide and it is the work of those who want to destabilise the country.
Ijazul Haq also dispelled the impression particularly by the Western media about the Madrassas and said the country was not getting any dictation on the matter.
He said President Musharraf is the most vocal supporter of the Madrassas and has termed it the best welfare project anywhere in the world.
