World Population Day observed
World Population Day was observed throughout the country including the federal Capital on Sunday.
The World Population Day is observed every year under the auspices of the United Nations to highlight the consequences of rapid population and it implications for socio-economic development.
Pakistan also joined the global community in observing the World Population Day and reaffirmed its commitment made at the International Conference for Population and Development (ICPD) at Cairo in 1994.
To mark the day, various programmes including rallies, seminars and symposia were held in different parts of the country.
The speakers highlighted the importance of the day and emphasised the need of controlling the increasing population.
They also highlighted the hazards of increasing population and called for creating awareness among the masses in controlling the rate of population.
Government representatives said that government attaches highest priority to the population cause and has taken a number of pragmatic initiatives to focus on reproductive health care.
