A police official, Haider Beg, who was an active member of the 1992 operation launched by Interior Minister General Naseerullah Babar (R) was shot dead near his house, in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on 16th June 2004.
It is unfortunate that neither the Governor nor the Chief Minister has expressed any concern over the murder of police officers who were only doing their duty.
More regrettable is that no political party, not even the PPP under whose government this operation was carried out and which gave Karachi peace upto 2003, till the new set-up came to power, has raised their voice in defence of these police officers.
If such is the case how can any policeman do his duty? What is the protection for the low-paid policemen?
