The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has demanded of the Pakistan Railways to increase the number of security personnel at the dry port, ban the entry of the irrelevant elements, and issue special passes to importers, exporters, clearing agents, and labourers.
The demand was made during a meeting of the Sarhad Chamber standing committee on Railway dry port, presided over by its Chairman Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi.
Those who attended the meeting were: Mazhar-ul-Haq, Imtiaz Ahmad Ali, Nawaz Khan and other members of the committee, while DTO Syed Mazhar Ali Shah represented the Pakistan Railways.
The meeting suggested that for making timely export possible, the Pakistan Railways should immediately send export cargo containers to Karachi for the concerned stations of KEW, MFY and Port Qasim. They also called for making Peshawar dry port more effective to provide all kinds of facilities here and provision of shunting machine.
The Sarhad Chamber committee also stressed the holding of the meetings of Railway Advisory Committee, and hailed the performance of the Pakistan Railways Peshawar Division.
Appreciating the increase in the income of the Peshawar Division, the meeting welcomed improvement in the reservation office, introduction of computerised ticketing system, construction of sheds at the Peshawar dry port, and construction of merchant room. Customs Clearing Agents:
The Frontier Customs Agents Group (FCAG) has appreciated Central Board of Revenue (CBR) for achievement of the revenue target of Rs 510 billion during fiscal 2003-04, and has offered full co-operation to CBR Chairman Abdullah Yousaf.
Zia-ul-Haq, Sarhadi, chairman of the group, highlighted customs agents' major role in the economic development of any country, saying the policies of the Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz have put the whole country on the path of development. He also congratulated Customs Collector Liaquat Ally Agha and Sales Tax Collector Ghulam Ahmad for achievement of their respective targets.
Sarhadi welcomed the introduction of the Pral system at the Peshawar dry port, Peshawar airport, customs station Torkham and Custom House, Peshawar, and establishment of Customs Facilitation Centre.
He said the system will enable us to remain in contact with the whole country and with the passage of time, the dream of the one-window operation would also come true.
