Suspected Maoist rebels Monday shot dead the mayor of Dhangadhi town in western Nepal, police said.
"Mayor (Dhana Bahadur) Bom was living in Dhangadhi in a rented house when he was attacked and shot dead Monday afternoon," a police official said.
Bom was returning home from his office and had just got out of his car when a suspected Maoist rebel riding a bicycle shot him five times and escaped.
The mayor's home was bombed by rebels last month and since then he had been living in a rented house.
Suspected Maoists earlier this month shot dead the mayor of Nepal's top tourist town, Pokhara, in one of the most high-profile assassinations in the eight-year rebellion.
