District Nazim Chaudhry Zahid Nazir has directed the district administration and other concerned departments to finalise all arrangements to effectively tackle the likely flood situation in case of extraordinary rains.
They have been further directed to ensure minimum possible loss under such circumstances through provision of effective and timely relief measures for minimising the miseries of the affected population.
He issued these instructions at a meeting, attended by DCO Syed Tahir Hussain, SP Headquarters Muhammad Idrees, all DDOs (Revenue) of the district, representatives of Irrigation, Wapda, Health, Agriculture, Livestock, Social Welfare and other concerned departments.
The Nazim directed the officers of the irrigation department to strengthen all the embankments and rivers dykes, besides filling up the erosion and breaches of the canal banks and submit a report to him within a week that the quality repairs and maintenance work had been carried out.
The District Nazim directed the health and livestock departments to complete the tasks of vaccination/inoculation of the people and cattle of the areas expected to be affected by the floods within a week for saving them from the threat of contagious diseases.
DCO Tahir Hussain said that in case of floods, the district had been divided into 18 sectors. In each sector, a relief camp would function under the supervision of an officer of revenue department and there would be proper representation of health, agriculture, livestock, social welfare, police and other departments so that an effective co-ordinated relief operation could be carried out.
He said that for this purpose, seven relief camps would be set up in Faisalabad, one in Samundri and five each in Jaranwala and Tandlianwala.
The DCO informed the meeting that the District Flood Control Room had started functioning in his office under the supervision of Mirza Muzaffar Ahmed, which could be contacted on telephone No 9200228-9 Likewise, Tehsil Control Rooms had also started functioning at all tehsil headquarters of the district.
All these control rooms had been inter-connected with each other via telephones/faxes so that in case of any emergency, advance warning or necessary information could be exchanged swiftly and effective supervision of the relief measures could be made possible for minimising losses and ensuring efficiency.
