A leader of Pakistan Muslim League (PML), Kabir Ali Wasti, has demanded of President Musharraf to impose Governor's Rule in NWFP to stop the provincial coalition of hard-liners of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) from 'Talebanization' of the province.
Three months ago it was Kabir Ali who, out of the blue, had asked President Musharraf to get rid of Zafarullah Khan Jamali as Prime Minister. The sudden demand had surprised all and sundry but it materialised within months.
Kabir said that Pakistan is a democratic and civilised country and the religious parties' alliance should not be allowed to impose 'Mulla Martial Law' in the province like former Taleban regime in Afghanistan.
He strongly criticised the threat posed by Akram Khan Durrani; Chief Minister of NWFP, to demolish plazas without mosques, and forcibly shut down shops during prayer time.
He warned that by doing so, the hard-liners of MMA were playing with fire and painting anti-Islamic picture of the sacred religion.
Referring to the proposal of the CM that business and financial transactions should be stopped during prayer times--five times a day--he said that it would damage the business activity and official working.
The PML leader said that by doing so Durrani was not enforcing Islamic system but creating hatred against religion.
He condemned the provincial government's acts of removing sign boards portraying photos of women, its 'Hasba law' and stopping buses for prayer, restricting its employees from attending music and dance functions and banning cable TV.
